Exhibition                 09.30 – 16.00hrs

Conference              08.45 – 15.15hrs

8.45 - 10.15hrs              FIX and FAST – A technical workshop and business overview

                                    HSBC Bank

Mr. Kevin Houstoun, Global Transaction Messaging Consultant
                                    FPL Global Technical Co-Chair

                                    Summary:

The FIX Protocol is the industry-driven messaging standard that is

changing the face of the global financial services sector, as buy-side and

sell-side firms, exchanges and service providers use the protocol to

transact in an electronic, transparent, cost efficient and timely manner.

FIX has become the de-facto messaging standard for pre- trade

and trade communication globally within the Equity markets, and is

experiencing rapid expansion into the post-trade space, supporting

Straight -Through- Processing (STP) from Indication-of-Interest (IOI) to

Allocations and Confirmations. From this foundation, the protocol is

gathering increased momentum, as it continues to expand across the

Foreign Exchange, Fixed Income, and Derivative markets.

The complimentary FIX Adapted for STreamingsm (FAST) Protocol

optimises communication in the electronic exchange of financial data.

FAST delivers an efficient data compression algorithm, which has been                                          designed specifically for the high-volume securities markets. FAST

thrives on large quantities of data that share similarities in content and

structure, presenting significant opportunities for the global capital                                     markets.

Attendees of this session will benefit from developing a stronger

understanding of how FIX can be used for electronic trading and a

deeper comprehension of FAST, the benefits it delivers and an insight                                            into its technical architecture.
